(CNN Spanish) --

This Wednesday, a team of 15 professionals from the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona intervened on the Spanish boy Oliver Romero, known as "little Oliver", to remove about 90% of the tumor that was diagnosed in mid-October.

According to a statement that the hospital sent to CNN, the operation lasted 10 hours and went smoothly.

After this operation, the two-and-a-half-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, where he is expected to stay for a few days.

Later he will go to the floor to continue with his post-surgical recovery.

As previously reported by both the hospital and the boy's father, Alejandro Romero, Oliver will undergo a biopsy of the tumor with the aim of designing the best possible cancer treatment.

Oliver, who lives with his parents in the Mexican city of Playa del Carmen, arrived in Barcelona on Wednesday, October 26, to undergo this delicate operation.

His transfer was possible thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor who assumed the cost of taking him on a medical plane to the Spanish city.

According to David Romero, the minor's uncle, the bill for the transfer amounted to US$200,000.
