Four cars were on fire when the fire department arrived in the Glockenbachviertel early Wednesday morning.

For several residents, the case is clear.

Update November 2, 4:48 p.m .:

Meter-high flames, acrid smell in the air – and heat that bursts windows!

Dramatic scenes took place in the Glockenbachviertel on Wednesday night.

Four cars burned out there. The cause is still unclear, the police are investigating (see original report).

Videos from residents show: The reflection of the flames flickers on the facades, the alarm systems of the burning cars underline the scene with a helpless beeping.

Again and again there is an explosive bang - probably because tires burst.

Resident Petra S. tells how her dogs drew her attention to the fire by barking loudly.

"There's been a lot going on lately," she says, meaning broken glass in the stairwell and bottles flying around.

The house in front of which the cars are parked is supposed to be demolished next year, some apartments have been empty for a long time, and the building is falling into disrepair.

The burning cars are now a shocker.

According to witnesses, a VW bus is said to have burned first.

From there, the fire spread to two Audis and an Opel.

"Fortunately, not all parking spaces were occupied, otherwise the large tree next to it could have caught fire," says Petra S.

One of the victims is Nathaniel K. from the apartment building across the street.

Only a skeleton remains of the Audi A3 that was parked here.

Curious: The 27-year-old had passed the scene of the fire in the morning and had not suspected anything bad.

It wasn't until he spoke to his girlfriend that he realized one of those wrecks was his car!

His girlfriend left it there.

"Of course it's not nice, and it's difficult to understand at first.

But you also have to quickly realize that there are worse things,” says the 27-year-old about the burned-down vehicle.

The Munich police were initially unable to provide any information on the cause of the fire on Wednesday.

For the residents, however, the case is clear: They assume arson!

The investigation is ongoing.

The police are also hoping for more witnesses.

Burning cars in the Glockenbachviertel: the police are investigating

Original message:

Munich - Early Wednesday morning (November 2nd) several cars burned in Munich's Glockenbachviertel (Isarvorstadt).

At around 1:15 a.m., the integrated control center was first notified of one and then several burning vehicles in Klenzestrasse.

"That's why the control center sent a complete fire engine with five vehicles to the Glockenbachviertel," says a press release from the fire brigade.

"Four vehicles on fire" - that was the first response from the operations manager.

A fire-fighting attack was quickly initiated by several parties.

At the same time, due to the heavy smoke development, several smoke alarms in the adjacent buildings were triggered.

"After most of the fire had been extinguished, all affected apartments also had to be checked for smokelessness," report the emergency services.

Nobody was injured in the course of the fire.

The Munich police department has now started investigating the cause.

There was initially no reliable statement on the amount of property damage.
