Tropical Cyclone Nalgae hit Hong Kong yesterday (2nd) and the Observatory issued Typhoon Signal No. 8 at 1:40 pm. However, none of the eight weather stations used by the Observatory to refer to whether the No. 8 typhoon is issued, none of which recorded the highest sustained yesterday.

Tropical Cyclone Nalgae hit Hong Kong yesterday (2nd) and the Observatory issued Typhoon Signal No. 8 at 1:40 pm.

However, none of the eight weather stations used by the Observatory to refer to whether the No. 8 typhoon has been issued or not recorded the highest sustained wind speed of gale force (over 63 kilometers per hour) yesterday.

Nigge moved to about 50 kilometers southwest of Hong Kong in the early morning of today (3rd) and finally broke out. The Cheung Chau weather station "Tail Tail" recorded strong winds, and when Nigge was closest to Hong Kong, it even recorded a storm wind (speed of 88 kilometers per hour or above), with a maximum sustained wind speed of 92 km.

As for other anemometer stations, both Tate's Cairn and Waglan Island recorded stormy winds. Most of the time, the highest sustained wind speed reached gale force in the early hours of the morning, and the No. 8 typhoon was issued half a day earlier?

Nigge is only 40 kilometers away from the observatory this morning

Niger weakened into a tropical depression early this morning, and the Macau Meteorological Bureau said it made landfall in the neighboring Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai City at 4:50.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory's record, Nigga gathered at about 100 kilometers southeast of the observatory at 8 o'clock last night, and then moved northwestward and entered within 100 kilometers of the observatory.

The Observatory changed the No. 8 Northeast Gale or Storm Signal to replace the No. 8 Northwest Gale or Storm Signal at 8:40.

At 1 am today, Niger moved to about 50 kilometers south-southwest of the observatory, and at 2 am, it got closer to about 40 kilometers south-southwest of the observatory, and moved northwestward at a speed of about 10 kilometers per hour, passing the southern part of Hong Kong. waters, moving to the Pearl River Estuary.

Under the combined influence of the Niger and the northeast monsoon, gale force winds are blowing in parts of the eastern and southern parts of Hong Kong, the wind is rising, and the rain intensifies. The Observatory once issued a yellow rainstorm warning.

At 40 km, Niger came closest to Hong Kong, then moved away and weakened.

For a time, Niger maintained a northward movement to disrupt the Observatory's assessment of the No. 8 typhoon.

The No. 8 typhoon was still windy. Looking at the map of Niger's movement path, Niger has been about 200 kilometers south-southeast of Hong Kong yesterday afternoon, maintaining a relatively northerly path approaching the coast of southern China, which directly affects the wind direction and wind force in Hong Kong.

According to the Observatory's previous article explaining the difference between tropical cyclones "Eastern" and "Xiden", due to the tropical cyclone in the northern hemisphere, the wind flows counterclockwise to the center of the storm.

When the tropical cyclone approaches from the east of Hong Kong, it mainly blows northerly winds. However, due to the obstruction of inland mountains to the north, local winds will be relatively low. Nigge was mainly in the southeast of Hong Kong during the day yesterday, so the main wind direction is northwesterly.

On the contrary, if a tropical cyclone arrives when the tropical cyclone passes from the west to the south of Hong Kong, and the wind blows from the sea in the east, since there is no natural barrier in the east to block the wind, the strong wind will hit Hong Kong head-on, and the wind will be stronger.

The No. 8 typhoon signal issued by the Observatory yesterday was a northwest gale or storm signal instead of the originally expected northeast gale or storm signal, which explains why there is no wind under the No. 8 typhoon.

Nigga weakened to a tropical storm on the night of November 2 and concentrated about 100 km southeast of the Hong Kong Observatory.

When the Observatory changed the No. 8 Northeast Gale or Storm Signal at 8:40 last night, it meant that Niger had turned to the south of Hong Kong, and then moved northwestward and gradually approached Hong Kong. The main wind force also changed to northeasterly. It turned to southeasterly, and the weather stations recorded strong winds. The weather stations on both sides of the Victoria Harbour, such as Green Island, Central, and North Point, began to record strong to gale-force winds. The island's wind is not only gale, but the maximum sustained wind speed is even more stormy.

The Cheung Chau wind station "Tail Tail Club" recorded gale force winds from 0:30 am to 3:30 am, and was the only one of the eight typhoon indicator stations of No. 8 to meet the standard.
