Trump prepared for the primaries: warned that he would reveal "unflattering things" about the rising star in the party | Israel today

Ron DeSantis won a second term in Florida on Tuesday after sweeping districts that used to be heavily Democratic, thus cementing his position as a potential presidential candidate from the Republican Party.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' meteoric rise among members of the Republican Party — made even stronger by his landslide re-election victory Tuesday in the midterm elections — managed to unsettle former President Donald Trump.

Trump, who in recent days has been dropping hints about his intention to re-contest for the presidency and to announce his entry into the party's primary race for the right to represent it in 2024, told the Fox News network on Tuesday that it would be a mistake for the governor to run for president.

"I think if he runs he might hurt himself [politically] very badly, I think he'll make a mistake if he runs, I think the [Republican] base won't like it, and I don't think it will be good for the party," Trump said in a recommendation that soon turned into a warning.

"If he runs I will reveal to you [the media] things about him that will not be very flattering; I know more about him than anyone else except - maybe - his wife," Trump said without elaborating.

Trump's words were not spoken in a vacuum, as DeSantis is seen by many on the American right as "Trump without Trumpism", that is, a Republican candidate with the ability to sway the independent American voter who is fed up with the elites, but without the outspoken behavior that the 45th president tends to transmit.

Trump expressed displeasure with DeSantis's rise in popularity on the right in recent days and even began calling him Ron DeSanctemonius, which in a free translation can be said "Ron who thinks he's better than everyone else."

However, in a recent interview with "Fox News" he said that he had voted for him in the past and denied that there was any quarrel between them.

By the way, both are considered residents of Florida, which may complicate the possibility of both running together for president and vice president, since in that case the electors of Florida - which is considered critical for victory - will not count for them even if they win, due to clauses in the American Constitution.
