Today, the Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Mohamed Hassan Qatana, discussed with the President of the Mediterranean Federation, Vincenzo Panettiere, and Professor of Bee Health at the University of Rome, Dr. Monica Vercelli, the experiments that are being implemented to control the Varroa parasite on bees, using varying proportions of oxalic acid.
The minister confirmed the feasibility study of these experiments and their impact on the ground in combating this pest, and the possibility of applying them to limited cells in the apiaries affiliated with the ministry in the governorates where bees are dispersed, especially in the coast, Homs, Hama, Aleppo countryside and Ghouta Damascus, according to a specific gradation for each group of cells and in proportions The identified and presented its results within two months, pointing to the need to develop an integrated program to combat this scourge at the level of Syria, in order to achieve actual benefit for breeders.
The minister pointed out the importance of cooperation with organizations to exchange experiences and scientific research, in a way that serves the agricultural sector and farmers in Syria and achieves development.
The head of the organization explained that the experiment was implemented in the areas of Al-Tal and Barzeh orchards and presented its results soon, and it will be implemented in other governorates in different environments within the conditions set for them, noting that the organization’s goal is to link all beekeepers in the Mediterranean region, provide services to them, benefit from their experiences and transfer expertise. among themselves, to contribute to the development of this sector.
