The Bavarian party wanted to have the potential of hydropower in the district determined.

The district council rejected the request.

There is already a study.

District

– As expected, the district council rejected the Bavarian party's application to have the potential for hydroelectric power plants in the district determined and scientifically evaluated.

As before in the Environment Committee, the resolution was not directed against hydropower.

"The application was rejected because there is already a study from 2016 that precisely defines the potential," explained District Administrator Olaf von Löwis (CSU).

"Technically, a lot has happened since then"

Despite the expected rejection, the Bavarian party was keen to maintain the application.

"Technically, a lot has happened since then, hydropower is more important than ever in the current situation," emphasized Martin Beilhack.

The district also has a pioneering role.

The Inola research project has already taken a close look at hydropower

The district administrator promised to do justice to this role.

The study by the Inola research project, which also examined hydropower in 2016, will continue to be monitored and updated.

"The potential hasn't changed much since then," added climate protection manager Veronika Halmbacher.

However, she gladly took up Beilhack's suggestion that the district organize an information trip to the hydroelectric power station in Großweil (Garmisch-Partenkirchen district).

"Worth it," noted Robert Wiechmann (Greens), whose faction has already visited the facility.

No signal against hydropower

Despite the majority rejection, it was important to the district councils to send the message that hydropower was taken seriously.

"It's not about pros or cons, we just reject further investigation," emphasized Löwis.

And Christine Negele (SPD) asked the climate protection management to publicize this form of energy generation, even if the potential in the district is rather manageable given the geographical conditions: "Please approach the people."
