The soccer World Cup in Qatar is imminent.

But where can you actually find fan articles and public viewings in the district of Miesbach?

A search for clues after football fever.

District

– Things have never really gone smoothly for Edeka in Weyarn when it comes to football.

It all started when it opened four years ago.

On June 28, 2018, operator Stefan Odenbach welcomed customers to his brand new store at the roundabout on the Autobahn for the first time.

Exactly one day after the bitter preliminary round of the German national team at the World Cup in Russia.

At the 2021 European Championships, the atmosphere did not really want to arise because the tournament was still under the shadow of the corona pandemic.

And even at the 2022 World Cup, which starts in Qatar on November 20, Odenbach has no plans to set up special campaigns.

The reason: the season.

Supermarket focuses on Christmas sales

"In winter you don't need to build a grill," says the market operator.

And instead of cold beer, customers would be more thirsty for warm punch or mulled wine.

Odenbach says with a wink that he is not familiar with the special editions of chocolate and gingerbread for the World Cup.

He didn't look around for fan articles like flags, jerseys or balls anyway.

“Somehow the topic completely passed me by.” Apparently his customers did too.

Not a single request reached him in this regard, according to Odenbach.

He himself doesn't even know if he'll come to watch football.

"We're in the middle of the Christmas business and have a lot to do."

Sports shop does not sell fan articles

At Sport Schlichtner in Rottach-Egern, too, the football fever is on hold for seasonal reasons.

It's no wonder that the retail space is currently being used primarily for winter sports.

"The timing of this World Cup is basically a disaster," says Christoph Schlichtner.

The specialist shop has not even included products such as the jerseys of the German team or the official World Cup ball "Al Rihla" in its range. When asked about an order, Schlichtner waves him off.

“The manufacturer is a bit complicated there.” That probably also applies to his private football schedule, Schlichtner fears.

"I'll have a look, but work is very busy at this time."

Panini pictures, as always, a hit

Meanwhile, there is also a lot going on at Rosemarie and Heinz Lindner's magazine shop in Miesbach.

And - hard to believe - this is where the World Cup in Qatar actually meets with customer interest.

The reason is a real classic: the Panini collection pictures.

"In the beginning there wasn't much going on, but now it's really picking up," says Heinz Lindner.

Comparing albums and swapping stickers is still a hit in schoolyards.

Understandably, for children it doesn't matter in which country and at what time of year the tournament is held.

According to Lindner, how long the rush lasts depends on how long the German national team is there.

Incidentally, the expert knows that a filled album with accurately glued-in pictures could still pay off decades after the World Cup: "Something like that is rare and sometimes even collector's value."

Where is hydropower in the district?

So far, the public viewing offers in the district of Miesbach have also been rare.

Only TSV Schliersee announced to our newspaper that the German games would be broadcast in the new sports home.
