With extensive legal experience, Jack Smith was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland as the special counsel to oversee criminal investigations into the retention of classified documents at former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence.
The former acting US attorney for Tennessee will also investigate parts of the investigation into the January 6, 2021 insurrection.
