The 'superbridge' of the Constitution and the Immaculate Conception has concluded with 18 deaths in traffic accidents, according to data provided this Monday by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT).

Among them were two motorcyclists, four pedestrians and a moped driver, those considered vulnerable users.

Beyond this week of greater displacements, Traffic has recorded 1,069 fatalities on the roads until December 11, a figure that already exceeds that of 2021, the year in which 1,004 people died in traffic accidents.

The 18 accidents in which 18 people have lost their lives occurred between three in the afternoon on Friday, December 2, and midnight on Sunday, December 11. The worst day was Wednesday, December 7, when eight deaths were recorded, followed by Friday the 2nd, with four accidents and four fatalities, and Sunday the 4th, with three accidents and three deaths.

On Tuesday the 6th, Thursday the 8th and Sunday the 11th, an accident was recorded each day with a death, while the other days there were none, according to the DGT statement.

In seven of the accidents the cause was going off the road, in six of them it was due to collisions, and in four there were run overs to a pedestrian.

Three have taken place on motorways or dual carriageways and 15 on conventional roads.

The accidents have occurred in Petrer (Alicante), Algaida (Balearic Islands), Cardona, Palau-solità i Plegamans and Piera (Barcelona), Almassora, Oropesa del Mar and Sacañet (Castellón), La Solana (Ciudad Real), Córdoba and Montilla ( Córdoba), Fuenlabrada (Madrid), Cartagena (Murcia), Ourense (Ourense), Bayubas de Abajo (Soria), Báguena (Teruel), Mislata (Valencia) and Fuentes del Ebro (Zaragoza).

Last year, on the bridge of the Constitution and the Immaculate —which was shorter and lasted five days— Traffic registered ten fatal accidents in which 12 people lost their lives.

You have to go back to 2016 to match a bridge as long as this one.

In that year, 23 people died on the roads, five more than this 2022, as confirmed by the DGT.

During this ten-day 'macrobridge' there were 11.1 million road trips, compared to the 13.5 million expected.

Traffic sources corroborate that this figure is the highest since the record of trips during these bridges began in 2010.

Therefore, 2022 has surpassed 2016 in displacements, a year in which there were 10.1 million.
