The Lebanese Army Command announced that a boat carrying people, who were trying to leave the Lebanese territorial waters illegally, sank off the coast of Selaata in the north of the country.
The Lebanese National News Agency quoted the leadership as saying on its Twitter account: "3 boats from the naval forces, accompanied by a UNIFIL boat, arrived at the site of the boat that was sinking off the beach of Selaata, and the personnel began to rescue the approximately 200 persons from the aforementioned boat."
Several boats of illegal immigrants have already sank off the Lebanese coast, and dozens of victims have been killed.
