The World Health Organization has announced Uganda's success in ending the recent Ebola outbreak.

And the website of the “RT” channel quoted the Director-General of the organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as saying in a statement today: Uganda’s strong and comprehensive response led to the victory over Ebola, stressing that the lessons learned and the systems applied for this outbreak will protect Ugandans and others in the coming years.

In a similar statement, Ugandan Minister of Health Ruth Aseng said: The country has put an end to the Ebola outbreak by intensifying key control measures such as surveillance, contact tracing, infection prevention and control, stressing that no new infections were recorded during the past 42 days.

Uganda had recorded 142 cases, including 56 deaths, since the announcement of the outbreak of the Sudanese strain of Ebola virus last September.
