Meta returns Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts after more than two years suspended

2023-01-25T22:45:03.923Z

The accounts were suspended in 2021 after the former president made a series of inflammatory posts about the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol, which a special congressional committee says fueled the violence.

Donald Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts will be reinstated, parent company Meta announced Wednesday, two years after suspending the former president from both platforms for his incendiary posts about the January 6 storming of the Capitol.

Nick Clegg, president of global affairs at Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, said Trump's accounts will be returned to the former president "in the coming weeks."

The company, however, clarified that it will put into practice

"new protection measures to prevent the violations"

committed from being repeated.
