The mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colao, clarified that she informed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the decision that was made and wrote that: "As the mayor of Barcelona, I informed Netanyahu that we will not have relations with his government.
We will continue to cooperate with Palestinian and Israeli entities that work for peace.'

Lior Hayit, the head of the national information system, commented on the decision and wrote that: "The announcement of the mayor of Barcelona, regarding the severance of relations with Israel and the city of Tel Aviv, is an unfortunate decision, which stands in complete opposition to the position of the majority of the residents of Barcelona."
