Chaim Biton of Shas, who is responsible for ultra-Orthodox education, spoke at a conference of directors of education departments • The participants felt that the minister was blaming them for not doing enough for ultra-orthodox education students - and in protest some of them left the conference • One of them called out to him: "We are not afraid, we want you to work" • Beaton: "The words were said in jest"

Minister in the Ministry of Education Haim Biton, who is responsible for ultra-orthodox education, today (Wednesday) created a commotion at a conference in Eilat attended by hundreds of education department managers.

The new minister went up to make a speech and during his speech he brought some data about the ultra-orthodox education system.

He noted that 40% of first grade students are ultra-Orthodox and then commented: "If you weren't afraid enough - be more afraid."

The directors of the education departments who were in the hall were amazed, they felt that the new minister was blaming them for not doing enough for the ultra-Orthodox students.

A commotion started in the hall and some of the participants called their friends to leave the place in protest.

One of those present called out to the minister: "We are not afraid, we want you to go to work. Shame on you."

It should be noted that over the years there was a position of deputy minister of ultra-Orthodox education who was responsible for the ultra-Orthodox sector, but in the current government they were given the position of minister in Shas.

The national parents' leadership attacked the minister and said: "The national parents' leadership expects the minister in the Ministry of Education, Haim Biton, to take care of the unification of the people and not to create a division in the population of Israel. The demographic change in the State of Israel requires us all to work constantly so that all of Israel's children receive an excellent education, structures and budgets without Difference religion, race or gender. The concern for one sector should not come at the expense of neglecting another sector and statements of this type do not contribute to the fusion of rifts in society nor to building trust.

The office of Minister Haim Biton said in response: "The words were said in jest."
