Latakia - SANA

The civil defense men in Lattakia did not deter their family duties after the earthquake from pursuing their sacred mission to rescue those affected by it, so they left their families and responded to the call of duty, and joined their colleagues on duty in the affected places to live moments in which hope shines with every success in rescuing someone trapped under the rubble.

The Director of the Civil Defense in Lattakia, Brigadier General P.S.C. Jalal Daoud, told SANA reporter about the emotional moments he experienced during his travels to follow up the rescue operations in the affected areas, the most difficult of which was the scene of the mother embracing her three children, but death cast a shadow over the room where they were sheltering in their house in the village of Astamu, which was demolished. 14 entire buildings, and another scene of a man who lost his two sons, and the most painful of which are two brothers embracing each other and they could not escape, as death overtook them one meter before they were pulled out of the Al-Rihawi building.

Daoud added: Words fail to describe the feelings that were felt by the rescue teams at the moments of removing survivors who were stuck among the rubble, including Noureddine Zakaria and his mother, Duha Nour Allah, as the civil defense personnel and citizens were overjoyed in the place.

Daoud stressed that the limited capabilities and equipment needed in such disasters were delaying rescue operations and reaching alive survivors, and this matter is mainly caused by the unjust Western blockade on Syria.

First Assistant Firas Ahmed Raei remembers the night of February 6th and the harsh scenes he lived through, and the moments of rescuing survivors from among the rubble, continuing his speech that despite the smell of death that hung in the place, there were moments that shone with hope with the success of our efforts to rescue one of those trapped under the rubble with an operation A long, difficult rescue for one of the young men from the Tarbush family, who was lucky enough to be saved thanks to the inclination of one of the house’s columns, which protected him from the concrete blocks that fell around him, as we used iron scissors and mashed the concrete for several hours, during which we were keen to exchange conversations with him to keep him awake and maintain his morale from The collapse, and after a safe passage was opened, we threw ropes at him and were able to pull him and take him to the ambulance to go to the hospital and receive the necessary treatment.

Motivated by a sense of responsibility and immediately after the earthquake occurred, the assistant, Jaafar Hassan, hurried to join the Civil Defense headquarters after he took his wife to her family's home and joined his colleagues in the car heading towards the village of Astamu to participate in the rescue operations and the search for survivors in a mission that lasted for three consecutive days that was filled with equally painful scenes. recipe.

First Assistant Bassam Ahmed Zureika spoke with a hoarse voice, remembering how his colleague Amer Saqr and his sister died immediately after the disaster occurred while he cooperated with their colleague Ali Ali to save Amer’s mother while she was still alive, indicating that their grief over their colleague made them more determined to continue working and do their best to perform Their patriotic duty and trying to save others, which is what actually happened, as they were able to extract the citizen Youssef Salman alive from among the rubble at the site of the Mobile Top building in Demsarkho.

Zuraika pointed out that Salman was very lucky, as he was lying on the stairs of the building surrounded by iron water pipes and a cement slab that protected him from the debris of concrete blocks, and we were able to pull him out using iron scissors and mashed concrete shirts. He concluded his speech that saving Salman gave them greater impetus for further work despite the effort, fatigue and exhaustion.
