Lattakia Governorate issued a circular stipulating the necessity of not carrying out any restoration or consolidation works for buildings damaged by the earthquake without obtaining a certified experience report from the Engineers Syndicate branch showing the construction status of the building, under penalty of criminal and civil liability.
The head of the Engineers Association branch in Lattakia, Eng. Hatem Hatem, stressed in a statement to SANA reporter the importance of this measure in terms of protecting the lives of citizens from danger, and the administrative units are responsible for monitoring, following up and recording any violation so that the necessary measures are taken against the violators duly.
Hatem added: It is forbidden to hide any deformation of any kind, whether in a collapse, crack, or crack affecting any structural or architectural element of any building that was partially or completely damaged by the earthquake and tremors that struck the governorate on February 6 and beyond. Strengthening, restoration or repair of any type and size in any building damaged by the earthquake and tremors that followed it except according to an integrated engineering study audited and duly certified by the Engineers Syndicate in accordance with the instructions issued by the governorate.
Hatem concluded his speech by emphasizing that doing any of the aforementioned prohibitions threatens the security and safety of citizens, and constitutes a criminal offense that amounts to a serious felony that is punishable by law with the most severe penalties.
