The Argentine protested angrily after a controversial move and in the midst of his affront he received a blow from the judge, captured by the camera that broadcast the match.

After the commotion that was generated by the aggression of Hernández, in the last hours the sanction that the referee will receive was announced, no less than a total of 12 games away from the fields, according to the decision made by the disciplinary body of the MX league.

"Fernando Hernández Gómez, the central referee of the match, is sanctioned by the Disciplinary Committee with a 12-game suspension for violent conduct against a player," the institution declared regarding the altercation that occurred on date 13 of the Mexican championship.

“To the fans and the public in general, I offer an apology, as well as Lucas Romero for my reaction yesterday;

I would never attack him, as well as any other player.

Aware of this, I will abide by the resolution that the Disciplinary Commission takes accordingly", was the discharge of the referee, made hours before the sanction was known.

The situation itself occurred in the 64th minute of the game, when the player from León and former Vélez, Lucas Romero, rebuked the referee when he showed his teammate Jaime Barreiro the yellow card.

Faced with the soccer player's attempt to defend his colleague, Hernández decided to respond by subtly raising his knee, bringing it to the Argentine midfielder's genital area.

The situation led to an uncontrolled riot among all the players and even those who were on the bench for each of the teams.

This commotion, which lasted around 10 minutes, led to six yellow cards being handed out and the two coaches being sent off.

The match ended with a 2-2 tie in what was a key match for the fight for a place in the CONCACAF Champions Cup qualification, although the result was left in the background after the unusual attack that went around the world.
