The man suspected of having stabbed a mother and her two-month-old baby in early February in the Jura has been indicted, we learned Thursday April 6 from the public prosecutor of Besançon, confirming information from France Blue.
The days of the infant, victim of an eventration, are no longer in danger.
The suspect, 27 years old and with a distant family connection to the victim, was staying at her home at the time of the events in the Les Rousses ski resort.
“The man, originally from Val d'Oise, admitted to having stabbed the infant and his mother who had come to defend him. He says he obeyed a voice that urged him to commit the facts
,” prosecutor Étienne Manteaux told AFP.
“The investigations showed that, shortly before the attack, his mental state had deteriorated to such an extent that his landlady locked herself in her room every evening.
On the day of the incident, the attacker forced the door of the room and stabbed the infant, seriously injuring him in the stomach.
"He then attacked the mother who had come to defend her young child
," continued Étienne Manteaux.
Drug use
The baby's state of health is not yet consolidated, because he must undergo a new operation in the coming weeks, he said, adding that the child was likely to retain sequelae.
The alleged attacker, known for drug use, was initially placed in psychiatry.
He was charged on Tuesday and remanded in custody.
He will be subject to psychiatric monitoring in a remand center, the prosecution said.
