Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the firing of rockets from Lebanon at Israel this evening (Thursday).

The Prime Minister stated that he opposes "any military escalation that originates from Lebanon" and added that the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL will speed up their investigation into the matter.

"We oppose any military escalation that originates from Lebanon and the use of our territory to carry out actions that destabilize," said Mikati, who heads the Transitional Government. According to him, "All the forces operating in southern Lebanon informed us that they condemn the operation and their opposition to escalation, especially in these delicate circumstances."

Lebanon's statement comes after earlier today, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry issued an official statement warning Israel against "escalation."

A security source stated that it is estimated that Palestinian units, and not Hezbollah, are behind the rocket launches.

The "Al-Arabiya" network also confirmed the claim, after it was reported that according to a source close to the organization - Hezbollah has nothing to do with the firing of the missiles, and that those who fired were Palestinian factions.

Shortly after, the claim was also confirmed on behalf of Lebanese officials, after it was claimed by "three security officials" in the country.

Earlier today, incoming IDF spokesman Brigadier General Danny Hagari said that the IDF is looking into the possibility of Iranian involvement.

"The shooting from Lebanon is very serious. It indicates that there is a multi-scene but single-organization event here - Palestinian Hamas. We have questions about who approved in Lebanon and who knows. The state of Lebanon has responsibility when fire is fired from it. We are looking into Iranian involvement," said Hagari.
