Surrounded by some of his ministers, Dominique de Villepin addresses the press.
In office for eight months, the head of government observes that "
neither the advancement of the retirement of seniors, nor the policy of reducing working hours have made it possible to bring down unemployment on a lasting basis, in particular unemployment among young people
”.
To remedy this, he announced the creation of the first employment contract (CPE), establishing a CDI with a two-year trial period, during which the employer can terminate the contract without giving any reason.
At this precise moment, Dominique de Villepin has only one objective in mind: to create employment in the country and thus leave a trace of his passage to Matignon.
Convinced that this is the ideal tool, he is unaware of the political battle that awaits him.
He does not know that within a few weeks, his device will disappear, despite its promulgation.
Nor does he know that within a few years - thirteen, exactly...
