With their new Twitch channel, the socialists are trying to invest social networks

2023-04-09T15:04:36.820Z

The boss of the PS deputies, Boris Vallaud, arrives on the Twitch platform with his colleague Philippe Brun. A way to dust off the image of the old rose party.

There is an air of Starsky and Hutch, minus the red Ford Torino.

In his office which adjoins the National Assembly, where his teams have hastily tinkered with a studio, Philippe Brun delivers his recipe:

“Two corny socialist deputies, a webcam and a chat.”

The elected representative of Eure found his Hutch, blond like the real one, in Boris Vallaud, boss of the PS deputies.

Together, they launched their weekly program “Boris et Philippe” on Wednesday April 5, broadcast on the Twitch platform.

A “niche” social network, popular with video game fans and which, over the campaigns, has become a new terrain of political conquest.

In less than an hour, facing the camera, the socialist duo presents their press review, punctuated with jokes and anecdotes.

But without losing sight of the political message: there is talk of nationalization of EDF, tax evasion, 49.3…

“Darmanin, we are going to do his thing tonight”

, warns Philippe Brun, who dropped the tie for the occasion.

In front of a hundred spectators, Boris Vallaud frees himself from the corseted atmosphere of the TV sets, even promising

"an imitation contest"

by Arnaud Montebourg.

“We are more comfortable than when we have to answer a question in three minutes at 6:30 am

,” admits the deputy from Landes.

Before dwelling live on his first meeting with Elisabeth Borne, at the start of the legislature.

The Prime Minister said to me: are you ready for a coalition?

He is told: no!

“After a few minutes, a user ends up getting annoyed in the chat:

“Excuse me, but are you in a monologue?”

"A new face"

Because in this free antenna, without contradictors, the socialist tandem has

"the control of the time devoted to the subjects"

, argues Philippe Brun.

Even if it means dodging those who annoy.

This premiere evening, a spectator wonders about the fate of the socialist dissident Martine Froger, elected in Ariège against the rebellious candidate supported by the Nupes - and therefore officially by the PS.

The deputy expressed her wish to sit within the socialist group, without being affiliated to Nupes.

“Are we going to talk about it?

Maybe !"

, reacts Philippe Brun.

Maybe not!

“, answers Boris Vallaud, the president of the group, in the heart of the Ariège cyclone.

Neither the time nor the place to stir up the divisions that agitate their camp.

Going off the beaten track, this duo separated by sixteen years wants above all to dust off the image of the old rose party.

"The PS has the ideas of the 21st century and the communication of the 19th century"

, insists Boris Vallaud, former spokesman for the party.

In this spacious office, occupied for a time, according to legend, by François Mitterrand, Philippe Brun intends to show the

“new face”

of this left

3.0

.

"We must learn the lessons of the 2017 election and the technological breakthrough caused by the disruptive formats of Jean-Luc Mélenchon"

, pleads the thirty-year-old passed by the campaign of Anne Hidalgo.

Enough to catch up?

Already a pioneer on YouTube, the leader of La France insoumise opened his Twitch channel in 2020, followed by an armada of activists.

Since then, two LFI deputies – Antoine Léaument and Ugo Bernalicis – monopolize the political space of the social network.

"There will be no competition," says Ugo Bernalicis, whose

"Deputwitch"

account

has nearly 11,000 subscribers.

Because the arrival of the socialist duo could well do the business of the Insoumis.

"It may allow us to reach the socialist electorate, and socialists to interact with our community

," said the member of the North, recently pinned for his "lives" in the Assembly.

And to slip a barely disinterested piece of advice to his two colleagues: “

They have to be able to network and invite themselves to other channels.

The invitation has already been launched, on the rebellious side, by MEP Manon Aubry.
