These are the words of Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin at a press conference on Monday, April 10, as the country ended three days of military exercises around Taiwan.
Two days earlier, as Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen landed in Taipei and Emmanuel Macron left China, Beijing announced maneuvers in the northern, southern and eastern areas of Taiwan, as well as in the strait.
A reaction which, as in August 2022, when the speaker of the American House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, went by surprise to Taiwan, raised fears of an escalation of tensions between Beijing and Washington.
