Coronation of King Carlos III: Meghan Markle will not attend the ceremony

2023-04-12T16:29:36.823Z

Neither will their children Archie and Lilibet, according to a Buckingham statement. The reason.

Prince Harry, son of King Charles III and Duke of Sussex, will attend his father's coronation on May 6 at Westminster Abbey.

But he will not be accompanied by Meghan

, his wife, and Duchess of Sussex, nor Archie, his Royal Highness, who turns 4 that day.

Neither was his little sister, Lilibet.

The announcement was made by Buckingham Palace on Wednesday afternoon, following a

prolific email exchange

between the Sussexes and courtiers over the status.

In a statement, "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet."

The Palace released the news of the absence of Meghan and her children, in an official statement.

It is the first time that the palace has issued a statement about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex since their departure from the Royal Family and

calls their children prince and princesses

.

But it does not give them the status of His Royal Highness, which is granted to them simply because they are the

sons of a king's son.

big negotiations

The psychodrama of the Sussexes' arrival at the coronation was long.

Harry has a terrible relationship with his father

and with Camilla, with whom he does not speak.

The new queen managed to lose Consort status en route to her coronation and

inducted hers her children Tom and Laura

and her grandchildren into the coronation ceremony.

It is not known

what Prince Harry's role will be

at the ceremony.

The battle of the Sussexes was to

be on the balcony

of Buckingham Palace, where until now only the working Royal Family would be, that is, the one that participates in official activities, plus the children and grandchildren of the new queen.

For logistical reasons, the palace had decided to include the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the program when distributing transport and seats.

April 3 was the maximum day to report whether or not they were coming and no confirmation had arrived.

Meghan will remain in Montecito, the house where they live in California, and

will celebrate her son Archie's birthday there.

But it will be a very short visit from Harry to Britain.

After the coronation,

he must hand over Frogmore Cottage

, the house given to him by the queen, his grandmother, and

which his father confiscated

from him to offer to Prince Andrew, who has rejected it.

It was a difficult decision for the Sussexes.

Not coming was putting an end to the bond with the Royal Family.

The two of them arriving was running the risk that no one in the family would speak to them because they feel offended by Meghan's accusations of racism towards them in the journalistic interview with Oprah Winfrey and after the public booed them.

Harry's presence as the king's son must be accepted by all, even if he has no active role in the ceremony.

He will be present at the Westminster Abbey ceremony and

will return to California shortly

, according to Omid Scobie, a journalist who acts as a spokesman for the couple.

Archie's birthday played a key role in not visiting Meghan, whom the royal family hates.

They had been invited by mail on March 4 from the monarch's office.
