The Argentine tennis player
Francisco Cerúndolo
faces the British
Daniel Evans
for the quarterfinals of the
ATP 500 in Barcelona
, which will award the champion the Conde de Godó trophy.
Cerúndolo is still on fire and took the first set 6/2 after just 36 minutes of play.
Cerúndolo, ranked 32nd in the ATP world ranking, plays against Evans (26), a rival with whom he lost the only time they met on tour, last year in the opening round of Roland Garros.
The match is broadcast on Star+.
The 24-year-old Argentine settled among the eight best in the Catalan tournament after leaving Italian Francesco Pessaro (130) and Norwegian "top ten" Casper Ruud (3) on the road, in a resounding victory.
In the case of advancing to the semifinals, Cerúndolo will face tomorrow Carlos Alcaraz (2), who beat his compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (38) by 7/6 and 6/4.
The contest has already consecrated two semifinalists, Lorenzo Musetti (19) and Stéfanos Tsitsipas (3).
The Italian made it through the quarterfinals without playing because Jannik Sinner (8) did not show up to play due to physical discomfort.
The Greek, for his part, beat Australian Alex De Miñaur (19) by 6/4 and 6/2.
The Conde de Godó is played on the clay courts of the Real Club de Tenis de Barcelona, will distribute prizes of 2,872,435 euros and has Alcaraz as the favorite, who is also the defending champion.
Throughout its history, the Count of Godó had two Argentine champions: Martín Jaite in 1987 and Gastón Gaudio in 2002.
