Intimacies of the Fito Páez series, which Netflix premieres, from the mouths of its protagonists

2023-04-24T23:06:15.058Z

Iván Hochman and Micaela Riera, in the shoes of Fito and Fabi Cantilo, talk about 'Love after love', a biopic of careful historical recreation.

It's the 80's in

Love after love

, the series about

Fito Páez

that Netflix premieres this Wednesday the 26th.

"Fabi, I'm falling in love with you

," Fito confesses to Fabiana Cantilo on a rooftop.

"

And I of you, Páez"

, she answers.

They play to play an imaginary keyboard and their love story is born

: Fito and Fabi will share their lights and shadows along with that hectic decade.

The essence of souls

, the absence of pain.

Iván Hochman

-in the skin of Fito Páez- and

Micaela Riera

-in that of Fabiana Cantilo- reveal to

 Clarín

the joys and challenges they experienced while starring in the series.

The eight episodes of him recreate with great technical production and dramatic depth

, but at the same time lightness and tenderness, the life of the keyboardist and composer from Rosario in the arduous, creative and liberating years '80, after the dictatorship.

“The series

talks about darkness and the luminosity necessary to go through it

.

Fito Páez's life was very turbulent and hard hit.

There were lives just as rock and intense, but less painful,

”says Iván Hochman, born in 1994. Two years after Fito released

El amor después del amor

: the best-selling album in the history of Argentine popular music.

Skinny, tall, dark-haired,

Hochman embodies Fito accurately, but not imitatively

.

He encompasses it in his looks and his corporeality.

The dreams of him, fears and pains of him.

His talent without brake inside and outside of rock.

And the actress and model Micaela Riera, born in 1991, achieved

a lucid and sharp interpretation of Fabiana Cantilo

.

Together -Fito and Fabiana, Iván and Micaela-

they are the soul of El amor después del amor

.

“I feel happy to have been part of this series.

It will be a before and after in Argentine productions”, Riera swears.

The fiction was created by Juan Pablo Kolodziej and produced by him and Mariano Chihade (both are partners in Mandarina TV) together with Netflix.

The different stages of the series

The Fito of childhood, in his native Rosario, is played by Gaspar Offenhenden.

Temporarily, it covers since Fito arrived from Rosario with the Trova Rosarina and

Juan Carlos Baglietto

.

It shows scenes of the

great creative flow that captivated Charly García

to decide to add him as a keyboard player to the presentation of

Clics Modernos

(1983) and the recording of

Piano Bar

(1984).

Right there, Fito would meet that intelligent and beautiful showgirl he fell in love with: Fabiana Cantilo.

-Hochman:

This series touches the sensibilities of people of different generations.

I used to dance to the album El amor después del amor when I was little, in the living room of my house

, with my parents.

There are people who were going to see Fito in Vélez Sarsfield that same year and there are young people who are meeting Fito again today.

"The series was a very ambitious project:

it is a period production, a musical, a biopic with recreation of characters

and night shows. I am proud of the work that the cast did. And the work that the technical teams did with the scenery, the changing rooms, for this incredible vintage trip", acknowledges the fictional Fito.

There is a committed composition work on the main characters, like Hochman's.

Love after love

offers strategic scenes from shows and mythical recordings of Fito, Charly and company.

It offers hints of his first solo albums:

Del 63

, from 1984, and

Giros

, from 1985. He evokes that first meeting with Luis Alberto Spinetta, on the street, which led to a friendship and a double key album:

La La La

, from 1986. And the exponential sound evolution of Fito until

Love after Love

.

But the goal of the Netflix series

is not just to praise music or nostalgia for the hits of Fito Páez

.

Along with the rocker from the '80s,

Fito reappears as a child

, in Rosario (played by

Gaspar Offenhenden

), with a founding pain: his mother Margarita Ávalos -concertist piano player- had died of liver cancer when he was just eight months.

Fito grew up with that absence

, in the midst of piano studies and all the records that his father, Rodolfo Páez,

a public employee and great music lover

, made him listen to, and which

Campi

plays , in an absolutely serious, unforgettable register.

His acceptance and his departure will also be decisive for the adult Fito.

Fabi, Charly and Fito: a delicious scene.

From national rock and from the series too.

Back in the '80s,

the series will go through the most painful episode of his life

: the brutal murder in 1986 of his grandmother Delma Zulema Ramírez de Páez, of his great-aunt Josefa Páez -who had raised him-, along with Fermina Godoy, the employee, who was pregnant.

Fito was on tour in Rio de Janeiro and had a catharsis with whiskey, pills and the furniture of the hotel room

.

The condensation of a time of multiple excesses, which

the series does not hide

.

The police vicissitudes of the case will also have their axis in

Love after love

and will be gravitating, even creatively.

Fito in one of the worst moments of his life: the murder of his grandmother and his aunt.

The lights and shadows without half measures

-Hochman:

Fito went through his greatest darkness with a lot of light, with a lot of love, surrounding himself with beautiful people who supported him.

And

the music was a channel for his pain, his anguish and his fears

of him.

Music was a grounding cable for Fito and he always supported it.

-Riera:

Fabi also had a hectic and very dark life.

But she constantly came back to the surface.

Today I see Fabi, such a bright and free person, and I feel very proud of her.

Because I know everything she lived through.

-What did the real Fito Páez and Fabiana Cantilo tell you?

-Hochman:

Mica and I had interactions with Fito and Fabi at key moments.

Fito told me something about the hair

:

"I needed to be seen at the shows with Charly García, he was very desperate and wanted to attract attention

. "

We also talked about his hands, his piano playing, and that shaped my own bond with the piano on the show.

Fito in Luna Park.

It didn't take long for the stadium to fill up.

-Riera

:

I had a long meeting with Fabiana, lasting six hours

.

She told me absolutely everything.

I felt her freedom to let me create, but whenever I needed to, I picked up her phone and called her to ask her questions.

Fabi was a love with me.

-If you had to choose a key moment for you, together, in the series, what would it be?

-Riera:

For me a scene in the street, when I get on Fito's shoulders.

Suddenly Fabiana is very happy, then she gets angry, gets into a taxi and starts talking to herself.

That for me is very Fabi, also within the bond that she had with Fito

.

For me it is the exact representation.

-Hochman:

I choose the sequence shot with which the presentation of the

Giros

album is narrated , at Luna Park on December 6, 1985.

It is one of my favorite scenes and shots

.

Fito and Fabi playing their best melody on an imaginary keyboard.

She describes: "Fabiana arrives late at Luna and then reappears changed, ready to sing. Magically she is always there. Before going on stage,

Fabi stops Fito, paints his lips and kisses him

. For me that gesture is like saying:

'Look, Fito, all this is happening to us, which is crazy, but I give you this joy'"

.

The aura of the '80s and who's who

In tune with these times of retro fanaticism for the '80s,

the series manages to perfectly portray that decade

.

Not only because of the hairstyles, the setting or the production design.

There is also a range of red, green and yellow tones

very typical of the eighties atmosphere

.

The love of the '90s: Cecilia Roth (Daryna Butryk) and Fito, a story that began in Punta del Este.

Charly García from the '80s is played by Andy Chango

, in a compromised register, although

somewhat cartoonish

(especially in his voice), but which does not attenuate the power of his encounter with Fito.

Luis

Alberto Spinetta is made up of Julián Kartún

.

His hairstyles and movements are exact and, although he doesn't look like him, he imitates his voice very well.

And

Juan Carlos Baglietto is interpreted -or reflected- by his own son,

Joaquín Baglietto.

Various actors recreate the key artists and bands of the '80s: Virus, Los Twist, Don Cornelio y la Zona, Andrés Calamaro, Sandra y Celeste, Fabián Gallardo, Alejandro Urdapilleta, Tweety González, Batato Barea and many surprises.

Like the fragments and quotes from songs:

you will have to pause every moment, during the eight episodes, so as not to miss each subtle or emotional reference

.

When Fito and Fabi are separated,

the other great love of Rosario will appear: the actress Cecilia Roth

.

Here the blonde Daryna Butryk

embodies her

, also in scenes of great chemistry, in Buenos Aires or Punta del Este, as a prelude to that magnum opus -dedicated to Roth- that will be the album

El amor después del amor

, from 1992. Right from the that last year they celebrated their thirty years, in the midst of great celebrations.
