The Colorado (USA) company Biofire Tech seeks to reduce accidental deaths from firearms in the US with a technological approach.
The company has created a gun that only allows you to pull the trigger after verifying the identity of the shooter with facial recognition data and fingerprints.
Kai Kloepfer, the founder of Biofire Tech, has said that the idea for this project originated after the Aurora massacre, which occurred in 2012. His goal is to provide an additional security filter while maintaining the idea of having a weapon available outside of safe deposit boxes for quick access should the need arise.
However, his project has been questioned.
In a recent demonstration with the press, the prototype pistol failed twice.
In addition, experts are concerned that the system could be hacked, despite the fact that its inventors maintain that it is not connected to Wi-Fi or external networks that violate its security.
