Kate stayed away willingly, but she was desperate to be with the Queen in her final moments.
This ate up inside Kate and increased her dislike for Meghan.

So Princess Kate gave up one last moment with the Queen for the sake of Charles, but would have arrived too late at Balmoral Castle.
As Robert Jobson writes in Our King, Charles, Camilla, 75, Princess Anne, 72, and a doctor were with Queen Elizabeth II when she died at 3:10 p.m.
Prince William, Prince Andrew (63), Prince Edward (59) and his wife Sophie (58) are said to have arrived at around 5:00 p.m., Prince Harry at around 8:00 p.m.
In his biography Spare, Prince Harry has very similar memories of the anniversary of his grandmother's death.
"He said I was welcome at Balmoral, but if he didn't want him there it was... her," Harry said of his father Charles' call.

"He proceeded to elaborate on his motives, which were nonsensical and disrespectful, which I wouldn't put up with.
