Is the war over in Cabo Delgado?

This is the question that the heads of TotalEnergies are asking themselves today, as they plan to resume their liquefied gas (LNG) project representing an investment of more than 20 billion dollars.

Ten years ago, the discovery of the ninth natural gas reserves in the world attracted many multinationals.

But the new gas eldorado has been paralyzed since 2017 by an insurrection by the jihadist group Ahlu-Sunna wal Jama'a (ASWJ), which claims to be part of the Islamic State.

Nearly 5,000 people have been killed and 850,000 displaced in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique.

In Palma, the relative calm of the past few months is reviving hope for a normal life.

For economic actors, the objective is to secure investments.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, gas supply has become crucial for the international community.
