An investigation was opened, and a septuagenarian heard, Thursday, May 4, after the discovery of a butchered dolphin in a trash can in Douarnenez (Finistère), revealed by the NGO Sea Shepherd, we learned from the prosecution and of the gendarmerie.

This resident of Douarnenez, a retired fisherman born in 1947, was heard by agents from the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB).

He said he discovered the freshly stranded dolphin, scooped it up and cut it up to eat, before throwing the rest of the animal in the trash.

The Quimper prosecutor's office announced that it had opened an investigation into these facts.
