The city of Munich corrects the prime minister.

Munich – At the beginning of January, media reports circulated that the city of Munich had removed fish from the menu in daycare centers.

At the request of our editors, the education department explained what was really behind the decision.

In the future, there will be no fish and fish products in the frozen range, so the kindergarten children will eat less fish than before, but fish dishes will not disappear completely from the menu.

"If required, the day-care centers can continue to offer a self-made fish dish as part of the fresh food offer, there is only no more fish in the pre-produced frozen offer," the education department wrote to us at the time.

Söder in the Lanz show: "Greens have enforced in daycare centers that no meat, no fish..."

However, Markus Söder (CSU) claimed exactly the opposite on May 2nd in the ZDF program “Markus Lanz”.

With a statement about the menu in Munich's daycare centers, he caused a stir.

"In Munich daycare centers, the Greens have enforced that no sausage, no meat, no more fish is offered," he explained to the moderator.

Removing sausage and meat from the menu was generally never mentioned in the debate at the beginning of the year.

According to BR, 290 of the 430 city daycare centers in Munich would no longer offer fish meals in the “Cook & Freeze” catering system as a result of the new regulation.

"Due to overfishing and the contamination of fish with heavy metals and microplastics, it was necessary to weigh up the extent to which sea fish should continue to be offered," said a spokeswoman for the education department when asked.

The respective day-care center management always decides on the exact menu anyway, fish dishes as fresh food can still be offered to the children.
