Fürth/Munich – The income and consumption study (EVS) is pending.

It provides answers to questions such as: What and how much money do people in Germany spend?

How high are the expenses for food, housing, transport and other things?

The Bavarian Statistical Office is currently looking for households that want to take part in the voluntary survey.

"As a thank you, they will receive a monetary award of at least 100 euros," the office said.

Participants wanted for EVS study: Statistics office lures with cash bonus

The office is looking for a total of 13,000 households in Bavaria.

For the first time, participants can also fill out the questionnaire online.

However, the "classic" participation via a paper questionnaire is also possible.

The EVS is based on a quota sample, which means that a population-representative sample is drawn from the registrations on a quarterly basis.

In order to be able to fill all quotas sufficiently, the following households in particular are still being sought: "One-person households and households with adult children as well as households whose main income person belongs to one of the following groups":

  • single households

  • Pensioner

  • self-employed

  • farmers

  • Households of low-income people

  • non-employed

"Those who are interested can register for the survey until September 2023 at https://www.evs2023.de/participation or request a written declaration of participation at evs2023@Statistics.bayern.de," it continues.

Every household that takes part will receive a cash prize of at least 100 euros.

Households with underage children receive an additional 50 euros.

Households that are selected according to a mathematical random process for a two-week detailed documentation of their spending on food and beverages receive an additional 25 euros.

"Thus it is possible to receive up to 175 euros for participation in the EVS 2023."

Income and Consumption Study (EVS)

The EVS is the largest voluntary household survey in official statistics.

It is carried out every five years, most recently in 2018. The EVS tells you how much money is available to households in Germany and what they spend it on.

The results of the consumer behavior of the population form an important basis, for example, for the determination of financial support payments for children and adults such as the citizen benefit (formerly Hartz IV) or for the calculation of the inflation rate.

The "Microcensus 2023" has already started in Bavaria.

60,000 households are asked about education, work, family, income and housing.

The information is mandatory.

EVS study: Participants must document their expenses for three months

Every household that takes part in the study has to document its expenses, for example for food, clothing and leisure, for three months.

In addition, questions are asked about the household, the living situation, equipment with certain consumer goods and household and personal income.

A selected part also undertakes to provide even more detailed information about its expenses for two weeks.

In addition to the cash prize, participation has another advantage.

The EVS also offers participants the opportunity to get an overview of their income and expenditure and to record exactly where their money is.

Therefore, the study runs under the motto: "Where is my money?"
