A wildlife camera took a picture of a bear in the southwestern district of Traunstein on 7 May. It is possible that it is the same animal that killed three sheep near Oberaudorf in April.
Traunstein- For the first time in more than 100 years, a bear has been detected in the district of Traunstein. He fell into a photo trap in the southwest of the county. "Another tip from the same district is currently being examined," according to a press release from the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU) on Monday evening. No further details were given.
Farmers and recreation seekers are warned to be cautious
"Livestock farmers in the area are advised to stable their animals at night and to take livestock protection measures," the press release continues. "The local population and those seeking recreation are asked to observe the rules of conduct when dealing with wild animals and to be attentive and cautious during activities in the great outdoors."
It is possible that it is the same animal that killed three sheep near Oberaudorf in April. After these cracks, bear tracks were repeatedly spotted in the districts of Rosenhem and Miesbach, which occurred on April 22. According to tz information, these traces had been discovered in the area of the Blue Mountains and the Schinder. After that, it became quiet in this region.
Further traces in Tyrol and Salzburger Land
It is possible that the bear has now moved east: On April 24, a sheep was torn in the Wildschönau in Tyrol, a DNA trace confirmed that it was a bear. On 4 May, there will be a trail further east: in the Glemm Valley at around 2000 metres in the winter sports resort of Saalbach-Hinterglemm (Salzburger Land).
And now a bear falls into a photo trap further north near Traunstein. Is it one and the same animal? "So far, we only have the DNA trace from the Wildschönau, which will not be tested for the inviduum until June," says Christa Entstrasser-Müller, spokeswoman for the provincial government of Tyrol. The LfU explains: "Individualization based on a photo or step seal is not possible."
