Brand Studio for Maizena

Every May 5 the International Day of Celiac disease is commemorated. This is an autoimmune-based multisystem disease caused by the intake of gluten and related prolamins that occurs in genetically susceptible individuals.

With the aim of continuing to raise awareness about the celiac condition and democratize gluten-free eating, providing tools to be the ally in the kitchen of Argentines, Maizena launches a new edition of its classic recipe book on food without TACC with new easy, homemade and gluten-free recipes.

During May Maizena will continue to share tips and super easy recipes.

In Argentina, it is estimated that 1 in 100 people suffers from celiac disease, known as an autoimmune disease that mainly affects the gastrointestinal tract, compromising the absorption of nutrients. Being a genetic condition, it can happen that within the same family there is more than one member diagnosed. In addition, both children and adults can suffer from it. In the child population, the prevalence is higher and it is estimated that 1 in 80 children may develop it.

When we talk about gluten we refer to a protein found in the seed of many cereals such as wheat, barley, rye, triticale, spelt, some varieties of oats, as well as their derivatives. Gluten is responsible for the elasticity of the doughs and provides properties such as consistency and sponginess in different preparations. For this reason, it is often widely used in the food industry.

For this reason, eating delicious, homemade and safe for people suffering from this disease is not so simple. However, in partnership with the Argentine Celiac Association, Maizena launches a new edition of its classic recipe book, in digital and book format, made from 100% simplified and gluten-free recipes to facilitate access to a rich, homemade diet without TACC.

In this context and under the concept "The secret of eating rich and without TACC is Maizena" the brand launches its new campaign and throughout the month of May, it will be sharing recipes in digital media and TV, informing about Celiac disease and inviting specialists, chefs, influencers and key opinion makers to provide information about gluten-free food. At the same time, it will carry out raffles of the cookbook from its networks.

In different media, together with specialists, influencers and chefs, Maizena informs about gluten-free food.

Symptoms and diagnosis

Our body speaks and knowing how to interpret it in time is essential to be able to go to the doctor. The most common symptoms of celiac disease are: weight loss, diarrhea or chronic constipation, bloating, malnutrition, anemia, among others. However, in adults, it can present asymptomatically, thus making its diagnosis difficult.

If a person presents with these symptoms, it is advisable to perform serological tests in the first place to look for antibodies in the blood since elevated levels of certain antibody proteins can indicate an immune reaction to gluten.

Treatment

It is important to note that the only treatment for celiac disease is to eat a strict and lifelong diet, free of gluten, without wheat, oats, barley and rye (without T.A.C.C.). That is, the person diagnosed with celiac disease should base their diet mainly on natural foods such as fresh meats of all kinds, vegetables, fruits, eggs, legumes and gluten-free cereals. In addition, special caution should be taken with industrialized foods, since, in their composition, or by cross-contamination, they may contain gluten, even medicines.

Let's avoid pollution

Gluten-free food products that are marketed in our country, must be printed on their packaging or wrappers the official logo of the 3 ears and the legend "Gluten Free - Without TACC" followed by the name of the product. This indicates that the manufacturer has submitted an analysis to endorse the condition of gluten-free with official recognition, as well as a program of good manufacturing practices that guarantees the absence of cross-contamination in the final product, and that has been audited by the jurisdictional health authority that registers the product.

Where to check what are Gluten Free foods?

  • In the APP Without TACC of the Argentine Celiac Association. This application for mobile devices is updated from the documentation sent by the companies and the official listings of Gluten-Free Foods.

In addition, you can consult medicines, hygiene and body and oral care products and gluten-free school supplies and you can receive notifications about news, health alerts and others.

  • In the Official Integrated List of Gluten-Free Foods prepared by the National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology (A.N.M.A.T.) in www.anmat.gov.ar.
