An 18-month-old baby was mistakenly abducted by a 20-year-old woman, who stole a car in the village of Ancizes-Comps, near Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme), revealed our colleagues from Le Parisien.
The offence occurred on Saturday, May 6 in the late afternoon. Taking advantage of the inattention of a woman in her sixties who had gone to drop off a letter in the mail, the young delinquent stole her car, parked nearby. But she doesn't realize that in the back of the vehicle was... an 18-month-old baby. Faced with this alleged abduction, the owner of the car tries to intervene, but can not help but alert the authorities, who deploy a helicopter of the gendarmerie to find the vehicle.

It is only a few minutes later that the thief realizes the presence of the young child. Panicked, she decides to drop the girl in front of a residential gate. The couple who lives there, seeing the scene, quickly calls the gendarmerie. The offender was arrested shortly after she swerved. To investigators, she explained that she had stolen the vehicle "to return home," according to BFMTV. The prosecutor's office of Clermont-Ferrand stresses that she had "perhaps not all her lucidity", being the subject of a curatorship measure. She has been released and is due to be summoned to court for theft.
