Salzburg – The meat loaf roll had a value of 2.50 euros. A currently homeless Upper Bavarian from Laufen in the district of Berchtesgadener Land had stolen them in a supermarket at Salzburg's main train station. This could have fatal consequences for him. He was very hungry, said the 27-time convict, according to ORF at the trial on Monday (8 May). However, on the same day, the man also tried to steal a bottle of vodka worth 5.50 euros.

The 50-year-old was caught by the store detective. According to the indictment, there was then a scuffle between the two men. The police were called. Then the thief is said to have tried to headbutt the policeman who intervened.
The 50-year-old was charged with robbery theft, attempted resistance to state authority and attempted grievous bodily harm. At Monday's hearing, the defendant admitted to the theft of meat loaf rolls and vodka. But he never attacked anyone. At that time, he had to beg to get some food. His lawyer said his client didn't need punishment, but help because of his alcohol problem. The trial was adjourned until May 22 because the store detective did not appear as a witness.

However, the 50-year-old is then threatened with a prison sentence: In the event of a conviction, it would be the 28th criminal record, a prison sentence with alcohol withdrawal would be quite possible - the meat loaf thief has already been convicted 27 times in Germany, including for theft.
In Austria, five years in prison would be possible, because of aggravated sentences for recidivism even 7.5 years! If the notorious thief had believed that he could have a jail-free second stealing career in Austria, he would have been wrong.
