While hundreds of migrants wait for an uncertain future after the end of immigration restrictions known as Title 42, food deliverers by application are responsible for bringing them food daily.
At one point on the Scenic Highway, which connects Tijuana and Ensenada, a dozen motorcycles can be seen waiting for orders, while the owners negotiate with migrants waiting on the other side of the border. Since 2020, Title 42 allowed the United States to expel migrants during the coronavirus emergency. When this policy expired, it gave way to the current Title 8 that provides for deportations and the denial of asylum to offenders, who will be banned for five years and face criminal proceedings.
Couriers have also diversified. Some arrive with food and sell it directly on site. Others deliver orders that have been previously paid for as donations in Mexico and sent to migrants at the wall.
