During Holocaust Remembrance Day, pilot Doron Ginzburg operated the El Al flight from Tel Aviv to New York. Before takeoff, Ginzburg spoke in favor of the protest and against the reform, linking it to the Holocaust.
While the plane was still in the air, a commotion began here in Israel following the pilot's remarks. As soon as he landed in New York, Ginzburg realized that this was an issue that caused quite a few headlines in Israel and apologized for his remarks to the passengers on the plane and even noted that he himself was the son of Holocaust survivors.
El Al decided not to include him in flying the plane back to Israel, and since then, over the past month, the company has been dealing with my business until a final decision was made.
El Al captain to passengers: "Holocaust can happen in dictatorships, we are fighting for democracy"
El Al decided not to fire the pilot, but at the same time decided to punish him with a suspension and a reprimand. Ginzburg will return to service at El Al after the apology.
Ginsburg told passengers that "things like the Holocaust can happen and the State of Israel is fighting for its democracy these days." The stunned passengers found it difficult to understand what the pilot was saying, and in a conversation with a relative of one of them, he said: "It's not clear how a pilot links the Holocaust to the protest and why the passengers are victims of these things. A little respect for this important day."
