Passengers on an intercity train in Austria were surprised on Sunday to hear the public address system during the ride playing a speech by Adolf Hitler, the BBC reported today.
Instead of the usual announcements, the traveling public also heard chants of "Heil Hitler" and "Zig Heil" on the train's loudspeaker system. The train operator said similar incidents had happened several times in recent days. A passenger on the Bregenz-Vienna route told the BBC that all passengers were "in shock".
David Stigmüller, a Green MP, said Hitler's speech was played on loudspeakers shortly before the train, the OeBB Railjet 661, arrived in Vienna. "We heard two parts. One was 30 seconds of Hitler's speech, and then I heard 'Zil Heil,'" he said. He added that the train crew was unable to stop the recording and announce messages.

Austrian Railways (OeBB) said: "We are distancing ourselves from the content. We assume that the recordings were played by people who were on the train through the intercom system. We reported it to the police."
Stigmüller said he received a complaint email from a man who was on the train with an elderly woman, a concentration camp survivor. "She was crying," he said. Another passenger said that in other countries technical problems are air conditioning that breaks down, but in Austria "the technical problem is Hitler."
