The prosecution division of the Israel Police - Eilat branch, filed an indictment against two suspects in their thirties, residents of Nazareth and Nof HaGalil, suspected of assaulting a man two weeks ago in Beit Oren.

In the indictment filed, one of the suspects was charged with threatening and the other was charged with wounding and unlawful possession of a fist or knife. At the same time as the indictment, a request was filed to detain them until the end of the legal proceedings.

The Eilat Magistrate's Court decided not to grant the police's request and settled for an alternative to detention. The court also ordered the release of one of the suspects under restrictive conditions.

Thanks to a quick investigative action, Eilat area detectives were able to trace the identity of the suspects and their escape route from the city, and arrested them on Route 40 on their way north.

Pelvic wound, bleeding bruises, scratches and abrasions

The investigation revealed that at around 23:00 P.M., the victim was standing outside Beit Oren when the two suspects began throwing debris from their bedroom window. A cottage box hit the complainant, who responded by shouting at the accused to desist from their actions. The suspect, a resident of Nazareth, Vered Saleh, threatened the victim with unlawful bodily harm with the intention of intimidating him.

Immediately afterwards, the two suspects left their room, went down to the parking lot and approached it with threats. The complainant tried to retreat, but then the other suspect, a resident of Nof HaGalil, Tawfik Shteiwi, took out a sharp tool, grabbed the victim's right hand and stabbed him in the left pelvis. The complainant managed to break free and tried to flee the scene. Despite this, the suspect continued to beat the complainant, knocking him to the ground and punching him repeatedly. As a result of the suspect's actions, the victim sustained a penetrating wound to his pelvis, bleeding bruises on his body, scratches and abrasions.

During interrogation, one of the suspects denied the allegation and claimed that he had not stabbed the victim. As part of the investigation, investigators found blood stains on the suspect's leg, which matched the genetic identification of the victim. When the suspect was asked about the blood stains on his leg, he told investigators that the victim had probably been stabbed earlier.

"The offenses committed by the suspect require his detention until the end of the proceedings," said attorney Shirley Hadar. "An alternative to detention is not enough, as there are reasonable grounds for fear that the defendant will endanger public safety. This is a man who, without any prior provocation, left his room, went down to the parking lot and stabbed the complainant, whose only sin was asking to stop throwing garbage out of the window. Even after stabbing him, the defendant continued to try to hurt him repeatedly. In light of the gravity and circumstances of the offense, there is no more appropriate alternative than remand him in custody until the end of the legal proceedings against him."
