It's an "extra layer of security," which should appeal to those whose phones pass from hand to hand. Meta on Monday announced a new WhatsApp feature, dubbed Chat Lock, that allows conversations to be locked and hidden.
This feature creates a separate folder, where it will be possible to move threads. Once placed in this new tab, these conversations will only be accessible after entering a password, or using a biometric identification system - by facial recognition or fingerprints.
This "extra layer of security" will protect "your most intimate conversations," Meta said, quoted by Sky News. It will also hide message notifications, WhatsApp's parent company added.
"In the process of being deployed"
Meta France confirmed Friday with the Parisian the availability of the feature, "being deployed" in France. To activate Chat Lock, it will be necessary to go to the info of a discussion, by clicking on its name, says the WhatsApp site. It will then appear in a "locked discussions" folder, accessible from the "discussions" tab of the application.

This new feature is in addition to other privacy settings already available, "such as end-to-end encryption and encrypted backups, ephemeral messages, or the ability to block screenshots for certain messages and hide its login status," WhatsApp said in a statement.
The launch of Chat Lock follows accusations of spying via the microphone of some smartphones, last week, as reported by the specialized site Clubic. The platform had assured that it was "a bug on Android".
