Daycare centers are moving to the Ministry of Education: "An important journey for our children" (Photo: Facebook Ministry of Education)
The strike planned for Wednesday at the rehabilitative daycare centers was called off this evening after Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Welfare Minister Yaakov Margi announced agreements on raising the salaries of the assistants in these daycare centers. "The agreement we reached corrects the injustice and compares the employment conditions of the assistants in the rehabilitation dormitories to those of the dormitories in the local government," Margi said. "I thank the operators of the dormitories for conducting substantive negotiations."
According to the joint announcement issued by the ministries, the demand made by the rehabilitation centers when embarking on the struggle will be met – comparing the salaries of the aides to that of those who work in the local government's daycare centers. Recently, it was agreed to raise the salaries of local government assistants by 30% as part of the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Histadrut, which created difficult feelings among the workers in the rehabilitation centers. Now, the ministries have committed to correcting the gap with the approval of the state budget in the Knesset.

More than 49 daycare centers provide solutions for toddlers up to the age of three, deaf, blind, autistic, cerebral palsy and more. The consequences of such a shutdown in daycare could be critical for these children. "They have been in rehab for years, and on a few days of strike they can go back a year. And it's not like they'll go straight back. It's not that they're missing out on material about Napoleon that will be lowered at the maximum in adulthood," said Avner Pinchover from Binyamina. His two-year-old daughter Yaara was diagnosed with ultra-rare syndrome. She, and only <> others around the world.
"Even the expert professors hardly know about the syndrome. Many of the children diagnosed do not talk at all, do not walk, on the autistic spectrum or with epilepsy. My child has only managed to learn two words so far," the father said.

Three-year-old Lavi Grinko from Be'er Yaakov suffers from Cattrall syndrome - abnormal development of organs during fetuses. "He has been in daycare since last September, after being at home for more than two years with no response," said his mother, Anna. "His syndrome is life-threatening. He underwent life-saving surgery at the age of two days. At the age of two, he was diagnosed on the autistic spectrum, with medically related post-traumatic stress disorder. Because there was no room in the frames, he stayed at home for months. And staying home is a real danger to his life."
She explains that closing the dormitories will mean that he will not receive the medical and emotional care he needs. "We're not professionals who can do that. I'm not a therapist, I'm his mother. They are destroying my child's way of life that we have been fighting for since the day he is born. He entered the daycare without being able to speak and they did holy work so he could make sounds, smile," she said. "In the near future, he has to undergo another invasive procedure, and the daycare knows how to prepare him for these procedures and wrap him up after them. They kill my child's soul in small drops."
