IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy clarified today (Tuesday) during a seminar held by the Northern Command that the IDF is preparing for fighting in several arenas simultaneously. He stressed that despite the achievements of Operation Shield and Arrow in the Gaza Strip last week against Islamic Jihad, it would not necessarily be possible to implement everything in the fighting against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
According to sources in the Northern Command, Halevy said that the IDF's multi-year plan is of great importance for increasing preparedness and training for combat in several arenas simultaneously. In his remarks, he claimed that what you see from Tel Aviv about a threat from southern Lebanon is not necessarily seen from the border.
The Northern Command seminar was held in order to delve deeper into Hezbollah's special forces, including the elite Radwan Force unit, according to several sources. In addition, the Shiite organization is preparing for a major war with Israel, for its routine activity and various emergency situations, for increasing the forces along the Israeli border, building fortifications and war compounds in villages, transferring weapons to the area near the Israeli border – with an emphasis on Metula and the response required of the regular and reserve brigades.

They also discussed the urgency of mobilizing reserves, the endurance of full readiness, and the readiness to maneuver deep into enemy territory under attacks by anti-tank missiles, mortar shells, and rockets on the home front. The senior officers conveyed to the commanders messages of tangible threats to the chances of war in the south, Judea, Samaria and the north at the same time.
The seminar was attended by Commander Uri Gordin, Corps Commander Saar Tzur and Brigadier General David Zinni, who will be appointed Commander of the Ground Forces' Training and Training Command. Also participating were division commanders, brigade commanders and regular and reserve battalion commanders, senior intelligence officials, and officials whose operative plan would fight Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
