Security forces stepped up security Tuesday evening at the Tomb of Joseph compound in Nablus, following the planned arrival of many Jewish worshippers at the site. The forces began to use crowd control measures against several violent rioters who opened fire at them.
Last November, armed Palestinians fired at a convoy of members of Likud, Shas and Religious Zionism who entered Joseph's Tomb with Samaria Council head Yossi Dagan. As the senior officials were leaving the grave, the security forces securing the area opened fire. There were no casualties or damage.
The disturbances that developed there also included throwing IEDs, throwing stones and placing obstacles on the exit road. According to Palestinian reports, a young man was shot dead by IDF fire. Photos of him circulated on social media show him with a weapon. The "lion's den" claimed responsibility for the incident.

In August, two worshippers were wounded in a shooting attack at Joseph's Tomb, one of them moderately to severely. The two entered the compound with three other worshippers without authorization and were rescued by IDF forces called to the scene. The security forces took them to a checkpoint north of Nablus, and from there the wounded were evacuated to hospital. According to the IDF Spokesperson, the worshippers entered the compound without coordination. The identity of the shooter, or shooters, is not yet known.
After the attack, the head of the Samaria Council called on worshippers arriving at the compound to enter only in coordination with the IDF. "Unfortunately, any uncoordinated entry is a danger to lives," he said. "I call on the IDF to get its hands on the terrorists and eradicate the murderers' nests in Nablus."
