Good luck: Bobby, an Al-Najtuai petting dog, celebrated his 31st birthday this past weekend and was officially recognized Monday as the oldest dog in the world to ever live.
Bobby celebrated last Saturday at his home in the Portuguese village where he lives at a party attended by more than 100 people. The guests enjoyed meats and fish at the event, and of course Bobby himself received extra. He himself, by the way, also enjoyed a dance troupe that performed for him and his guests.
Lionel Costa, Bobby's owner who received him when he was 8 years old, said he had previously owned dogs that reached old age, including Bobby's mother, Guerra, who died at the age of 18. "We see these situations as a normal part of the life dogs live, but Bobby is one of a kind. He lived a calm, quiet and environmentally friendly life."

Due to his age, Bobby naturally has difficulty walking, so he prefers to sit and rest in his yard. His eyesight is also not as it was, which causes him to bump into things as he walks. Guinness awarded Bobby the honorable title after his date of birth was verified by the veterinary authorities in the province where he lived, as well as by the Portuguese government itself.
"Bobby is special because when I see him he reminds me of the people who were part of our lives and are no more, like my father, brother, grandparents and grandmothers," Costa said. "Bobby represents those generations."
