Iranian Intelligence Minister Ismail Khatib announced on Sunday the capture of a "Zionist terrorist cell" in western Iran, Tasnim News Agency, which is affiliated with the Iranian regime, reported.
Khatib claimed it was "a terrorist cell linked to the Zionist regime that entered Iranian territory from the western border." Khatib expressed hope that intelligence cooperation by the new Iraqi government, made up of Tehran's loyalists, "will prevent a repeat of the security incident."
Khatib launched a veiled threat at the government of Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region, which Iran has repeatedly accused of collaborating with Israel, saying: "As far as the security of the Islamic Republic is concerned, any action on our border will be met with a decisive and crushing response."
In the past, Iran attacked targets it claimed belonged to the "Israeli Mossad" in the territory of the Kurdish autonomy in northern Iraq. In the past, it was even claimed that operatives of the Kurdish underground carried out attacks against senior Iranian officials and Metro Tashel of the Iranian nuclear project, with Israel's assistance and training. Jerusalem never responded to these reports.
