The battle for the university in the Galilee: Entrepreneur Erel Margalit claims that removing the item from the state budget to turn Tel Hai into a university is a death sentence for the development of the Galilee and that "the Israeli government continues to throw sand in the eyes of the residents of the north." However, the chairman of the Council for Higher Education, Minister Yoav Kish, rejects the claims.

In September last year, the Council for Higher Education approved turning Tel Hai College into the first university in the Galilee. The person who pushed the move was former Education Minister Yifat Shasha Biton, who claimed that the move would advance the entire region and strengthen the residents.

For the purpose of the establishment process, it was decided that the PBC and the CHE would appoint a steering committee that would work alongside Tel Hai College to outline a detailed multi-stage establishment plan for the university. However, the decision to turn Tel Hai into a university also included much criticism from neighboring colleges, who claimed that the move would harm them, and they even appealed to the attorney general to stop the declaration, claiming that it was a hijacking. Upon assuming the position of Minister of Education, who is also chairman of the Council for Higher Education, Kish is also delaying the move in light of requests he received.

"Removing the item from the state budget to turn Tel Hai into a university is a death sentence for the development of the Galilee," attacks JVP and Margalit Startup City Chairman Erel Margalit. "For 17 years, residents of the north in general and the Galilee finger in particular have been waiting for the Israeli government to establish the first university in the north. The Galilee is developing, multinational companies are coming to Kiryat Shmona, and the Israeli government continues to throw sand in the eyes of the residents of the north and postpones turning Tel Hai into a university, after the move passed all the required courts."

Margalit adds: "We established Margalit Startup City in Kiryat Shmona, where more than 35 companies operate with hundreds of employees at quality wages. Tel Hai College received all the necessary approvals to become a university from the PBC and the CHE after intensive work with the connection to the Miguel Research Institute. Despite all this, the Israeli government demonstrably ignores the residents of the north and acts in the dark to prevent the establishment of the first university in the Galilee, which is so necessary for the continued development of the region and its future."

The Education Minister's Office was not moved by Margalit's remarks and said in response: "The Minister of Education sought to professionally examine the significance of the CHE's recommendation to establish a university in Tel Hai, due to many inquiries claiming that the decision was made out of considerations that are not professional but personal considerations. In addition, in full coordination with the PBC, the budget for establishing the university was never planned to be part of the current budget, but rather an additional budget."
