Initially, the son, Vladislav Popov (23), claimed that his father stabbed his mother and therefore he fought his father and during the struggle stabbed him in self-defense. He later changed his version and confessed to murdering his parents.
At a hearing held today (Monday) at the Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court, a police representative said: "He gave two versions. In the first version, he claimed that the father murdered his mother and he fought his father and stabbed him. In the second version, he said that he murdered the father, murdered the mother and stabbed the dog. He said he woke up at night and heard his voice and felt the need to hurt his parents."

Attorney Avi Cohen, who represents him, said at the hearing: "This is a very difficult case. He had no motive to harm his parents. This is a young man with no criminal record who served full military service. He must have been in a psychotic state. He was sent for examination and we have an indication that he has a problem of a faulty reality checker. The very fact that the dog was stabbed shows that there is a problem." He asked to be sent for psychiatric observation.
