A "temporary reception airlock" was organized to accommodate the homeless in the Paris region, in an evacuation operation criticized by associations.

Many migrant families have been dislodged from a social hotel in Montgermont, near Rennes, to make way for homeless people from Île-de-France who will be taken care of in a "temporary reception airlock", we learned this Friday from associations.

These associations specializing in emergency accommodation deplored the "haste and inhumanity" with which this relocation had to be carried out under pressure from the public authorities, to the detriment of these migrants. Some have been relocated to other Breton departments even though they are sometimes sick, have children in school or have a job in the Rennes region.

"We are disgusted with the way it happened"

The police had been dispatched to evacuate the hotel of Montgermont to the families still present on Tuesday, May 16, deadline set by the prefecture, according to the associations. "We were forced to make these people leave in a fortnight to make way for these other people from Paris. We are disgusted with the way it happened," a volunteer told AFP who asked not to be named.

For example, some migrants were relocated overnight to Finistère, where they had only one night booked. "Afterwards, they were sent back to the street. So these people came back to Rennes, and we do not have the right to take them back, "says this volunteer. "An elderly lady, seriously ill, and her adult daughter are currently sleeping in a tent in Rennes while they were still in the hotel last week," she said.

In the run-up to the Olympics, the government wants to encourage thousands of homeless people, mostly migrants, to leave the Paris region on a voluntary basis for various regions, arguing the decline in the number of hotels willing to accommodate them. Asked by AFP, the prefecture of Ille-et-Vilaine had not reacted Friday late afternoon.
