Francisco Mugnolo, Penitentiary Prosecutor of the Nation, lawyer, teacher, former national deputy for the radicalism and former president of the Bar Association of the Judicial Department of San Martín, died this Friday at the age of 81. Referents of the UCR lamented his death on social networks.

"With deep sorrow, we regret to communicate the death of the Penitentiary Prosecutor of the Nation, Dr. Francisco Mugnolo," the Prison Ombudsman said in a statement.


Mugnolo was a member of the Governing Board of the Argentine Federation of the Bar Association and the Lawyer Defense Commission of the Argentine Federation of the Bar Association. And the exercise of these positions earned him recognition for his action in defense of the freedom and life of Argentine lawyers during the military dictatorship.

"He interviewed detainees who were victims of institutional violence, torture and ill-treatment," the report said about his performance as head of the Attorney General's Office and "became fully involved in the territory to be able to work accordingly."

In addition, he led the growth of the National Penitentiary Prosecutor's Office "inaugurating delegations in the provinces" and "contributed to the experience and knowledge of our teams being shared internationally with referents and representatives of other institutions."

Mugnolo's death was also reported by the Radical Civic Union (UCR) of the province of Buenos Aires on its Twitter account, where it said: "Sad news, Francisco "Lito" Mugnolo passed away."

"A man of values who worked for democracy and advocated tirelessly for human rights," he said, adding that it is "a great loss for the radicalism of the province of Buenos Aires. Condolences to their families and friends."

The National Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CNPT), meanwhile, expressed in the same social network "deep sorrow shared by the entire National System for the Prevention of Torture for the death of Dr. Francisco Mugnolo and accompanies his family and loved ones in this difficult time."

"Francisco Mugnolo fought tirelessly for human rights during state terrorism and in the decades of democratic life in each of the places he occupied," said the CNPT and affirmed that "his commitment to the rights of persons deprived of liberty was absolute throughout his life."
