Israel reacted with sorrow today (Saturday) to the horrific attack that took place in the morning on the Israeli-Egyptian border, in which a female fighter fell. This is in addition to an encounter with the terrorist in which another fighter fell. Earlier, the IDF officially announced that the terrorist killed was an Egyptian policeman.
Defense Minister Yoav Galant wrote that he was "pained by the loss of the three fighters in an incident on the Egyptian border. IDF soldiers carried out their missions with dedication, but the incident ended with severe consequences. My heart is with the families at their most difficult time."
Galant added: "I held an assessment with the chief of staff - the IDF will investigate the incident as required. I trust the IDF fighters and commanders who continue to carry out their missions with determination and perseverance."
"This is a Shabbat with very difficult and sad news for the people of Israel and the State of Israel," said Eran Doron, head of the Ramat Hanegev Regional Council: "Three fighters lost their lives defending the communities of the Negev Heights on the Egyptian border. The Ramat Hanegev family shares in their deep sorrow and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured in the terrible attack.
"We rely on the IDF and security forces to guard the communities and believe that they will do what is necessary vis-à-vis their counterparts on the other side of the border in order to investigate the incident and learn the lessons," Doron said.
